WHY BELIEVE IN GOD

Scripture quotations unless otherwise noted are taken from the Holy Bible, New Living Translation, © 1996 by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.

People need something to believe in to give them a basis for living and meaning in life. The mind continues to search and is not satisfied until there is resolution.

God satisfies this need.

No one has every seen God.

But man has seen his son, Jesus, who said he was himself God.

No one has ever seen God. But his only Son, who is himself God, is near to the Father's heart; he has told us about him.
John 1:18

Jesus claims to provide the meaning and the basis for living and satisfaction that man searches for.

I am the way, the truth, and the life.
John 14:6

It takes effort to believe in God. One has to explore. God's communication with man is documented in Scripture. He doesn't force himself on anyone. A thoughtful reading of his word is the way to discover and find God.

In a quiet moment in the silence of the heart one searches for the meaning of life - only one person can satisfy that search.

Be silent, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.
Psalm 46:10

Is the complexity of nature and human life chance? Consider the complexity of the human mind, the billions of galaxies, one single stand of DNA.

The heavens tell of the glory of God. The skies display his marvelous craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or a word; their voice is silent in the skies; yet their message has gone out to all the earth, and their words to all the world.
Psalm 19:1-4

God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end.
Ecclesiastes 3:11

It is in searching that one will discover truth, and since belief in God requires searching, especially by searching his word, one cannot expect to be find answers by being passive and not actively pursuing the meaning of believing in God. It requires effort!

And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And the door is opened to everyone who knocks.
Luke 11:9-11

But wisdom is shown to be right by what results from it.
Matthew 11:19

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
John 8:32

It is in reflecting on the word of God that one discovers God. Once this happens, the truth of this encounter with God will fulfill and color life. One will never be the same.

The unquestioned life is not worth living.
