MACROPRAYER

Scripture quotations unless otherwise noted are taken from the Holy Bible, New Living Translation, © 1996 by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.

People pray for a specific person, about an issue or problem, for someone who is sick, and the like.

Why do we limit God in our prayer to individual situations?

Why not pray for everyone in the world?

Why not ask God to bless everyone in the world always?

We can pray on a "macro" level.

Call it macroprayer, praying large in scope, large in extent.

God knows what we need before we pray. He knows the needs of everyone in the world. For those who cannot express their prayers in words, the Spirit can plead for them in groans that God can hear. So, we may pray as follows...

God, you know the needs of all your people in this world, and you hear the groanings of the Spirit in regard to those who are unable to adequately express their needs to you. Since you are able, and want to, we ask you to always take care of the needs of everyone in this world. And may we always listen to your Spirit, and be moved to be your tools in helping those whom we can help in this world.

You can express your own macroprayers as the Spirit moves you.

Sometimes the Spirit may talk to you in your heart and say, "Don't ask me to do this. You do it for me!"

Scripture About Prayer

The truth is, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, because the work of the Son brings glory to the Father. Yes, ask anything in my name, and I will do it.

Romans 4:18-19

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don't even know what should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, appealing for justice against someone who had harmed her. The judge ignored her for a while, but eventually she wore him out. 'I fear neither God nor man,' he said to himself, 'but this women is driving me crazy. I'm going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!'" Then the Lord said, "Learn a lesson from this evil judge. Even he rendered a just decision in the end, so don't you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who plead with him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when I, the Son of Man, return, how many will I find who have faith?"
